Paul and Lori Engle
Paul and Lori Engle are a husband and wife team living in North
Central Massachusetts with the simple goal of creating jewelry
and small art objects of the highest quality from glass and other
natural materials. They live on a lazy pond surrounded by large
pine trees in a quiet rural community. Their studio looks out over
the small pond and all the happenings along the shore and in the water.
Much of the inspiration for their work comes from nature; the plant and
animal life in their yard, old botanical drawings, work from the Art Nouveau
period and the beautiful patterns of William Morris
Lori's lampworking career started in 1997 after attending a Bead Exhibition
curated by Kristina Logan. On that night, the beauty of glass beads became
the inspiration for a career change; unlocking the door to a new life, and
fulfilling her need to express herself through art. She took her first of many
classes with Gail Crosman Moore who soon became her mentor and dear friend.
She is constantly trying new techniques, materials and playing with shape and color.
Paul's passion for pate de verre was fueled by a class he took in Provence France in the
summer of 2002. Taught by Marie-Odile Savingy, he took quickly to making molds for the
powdered glass and the many stepped process for making pate de verre. Paul is always
doodling and designing new functional pieces.
Paul has self published 2 volumes of a 3 volume English translation of Antonio Neri's L'Arte
Vetraria, .(The Art of Glass) first printed in 1612. The third volume to be published in 2005.
